Three Valuable Suggestions For Newbie Guitarists To Elevate Your Practicing

When you are starting out to learn the guitar, you are going to set aside time for practicing. If you can’t do this, then you are already gonna be in trouble. By trouble I mean that you may progress some, but finally you will not succeed with the instrument. It is much better to progress steadily and improve over time, rather than to just have no plan at all. In this article I’m going to provide you with three ways that you can maximize your practice time and ultimately achieve your goals. Believe me when I say that once you become that great guitar player, you will have so much fun playing the guitar and you will be rocking with the songs that you want.

First I would recommend that you either use a metronome on the Internet or buy one at your favorite guitar shop. I personally like to use the small kind you can buy at the close by guitar shop, but when the batteries are dying, sometimes I bring my computer over and I have an Internet metronome site bookmarked. The metronome will do several things for you, especially since you are new. It will allow you to slow down the notes that you have to play. This is crucial at the start because you won’t be able to pick the notes you are learning at full speed. In fact it is better to play them in a controlled way and memorize them good. The metronome will also help you improve stability because it will force you to play the notes evenly spaced apart so that you can keep along with the beat. When I bought my PRS 513 guitar, I got a metronome as part of the package.

Second I always tell my class to get new strings. If you play many hours a day like I do, I would recommend that you restring the guitar every couple of months or so. This will make sure that the guitar plays well and you will have correct tension in the strings. Older strings tend to be a pain for tuning because they go out of tune and you will end up wasting your time with them. You can either buy them on the net or at the local store. Experiment with different brands to see which one works best with your guitar. Always take note of the type of strings that you bought so that you can get it again the next time you shop. I have tried Ernie Ball quality strings with my PRS 22 guitar and they are very good.

Third I will say that it can help to have a pattern of notes that you like and practice it. It is better to have a pattern of notes that is difficult and not something you can play now. It can be a scale. It can be a piece of a song. It can even be part of a cool solo that you like. Make sure that it is fun to play. That is the key because you need to be motivated to practice.

Now that I’ve given you lots of guidance you can use to take your practicing to the next level, it is up to you to give them a shot. Go ahead and give what I’ve offered a shot at your next lesson.
